UIS Campaign Goals
Growing into a bigger and brighter future
Our goal is to be recognized as one of the top five small public liberal arts universities in the United States. And we’re well on our way. Today, thanks in no small part to the generous past support of alumni as well as parents, friends and organizations that share our values, we’re offering students broad, interdisciplinary instruction from leading professors. Just as important, we’re doing it in an atmosphere of free inquiry, civic engagement and respect for differences—the values most closely associated with a liberal arts education.
UIS delivers higher learning through leading-edge instructional methods and resources that accommodate the diverse needs of 21st century students and we maintain small class sizes that give students the benefit of close personal interaction with active teacher-scholars. And then there’s public service, an indispensable component of academic life at UIS. Our setting in the state’s capital city is an ideal one for the first-rate public affairs programs, activities, and internships we offer.
Ambitious but attainable goals
Innovation and personal attention to student development will be just as important to our future success as they have been to our history. UIS is in a period of rapid growth that points us toward a brilliant future and we’re part of an exciting trend in higher education: smaller universities that combine the best characteristics of private liberal arts schools with a commitment to broad public access.
Our vision rests on three ambitious but realistic goals:
- Delivering academic excellence
- Creating experiences that enrich individual lives
- Making a difference in our community, our world
These three strategic goals complement and reinforce each other, building on our unique strengths while honoring our achievements. We’re proud of the momentum we’ve gathered, but we know that alone won’t be enough to get us to the next stage. It’s the financial and moral support of faculty, alumni and friends both of our university and of the city of Springfield that will ensure our future success. That’s why we’re launching Brilliant Futures: the Campaign for the University of Illinois at Springfield.
We change lives at UIS. We enrich the culture and economy of central Illinois and are enriched by it in turn. We embody academic excellence and the principle of civic engagement.
Our $28 million Campaign goal will help make UIS one of the top five small public liberal arts universities in the nation.
